Thomas Kmiecik, clarinet

Dr. Thomas Kmiecik joined the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University as Lecturer of Clarinet in 2011.

Prior to his appointment at Southeastern, he worked as a part-time instructor for the Department of Music at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. In this position, he taught sections of Music Theory Fundamentals and Music Appreciation for non-majors, performed administrative work for undergraduate Music History courses, and did sectional/coaching work for various ensembles in the music department.

He has performed at many concert halls across the United States and Europe with a number of high caliber ensembles, including the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Nevada Pops Orchestra, the North Texas Wind Symphony, and the Lone Star Wind Orchestra. Dr. Kmiecik has held many principal clarinet positions in his past experience, as well as E-flat and bass clarinet positions. He has also doubled on other woodwind instruments in pit orchestras for many musicals and shows across the country, most notably in Disney’s “The Lion King” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” on the famous Las Vegas strip.

Dr. Kmiecik earned his doctorate (D.M.A.) from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, his master's degree (M.M.) in performance from the University of North Texas, and his bachelor’s degree (B.M.) in performance from Eastern Michigan University. His primary teachers include Marina Sturm, James Gillespie, Kimberly Cole Luevano, and Andrew Mormile.

Thomas has performed on recordings for the Neil A. Kjos Music Company, GIA Publications, and Mark Records. His professional and academic affiliations include the International Clarinet Association, American Federation of Musicians, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and Golden Key International Honour Society.
